I think this one is a no brainer. Its definately the truth. It is easier to understand and accept a lie than it is to understand and accept the truth. Lies come with alot more blame and excuses than the truth does. The truth is exactly what it is, the truth, like it or leave it. If telling the truth was easier than telling a lie, non of us would be liars. Of course there are those times that we tell little white lies, to protect someone from the truth, but I believe, in all honestly, that it only gives those we are protecting a false sense of security or a clouded perception of the real situation at hand. It may be helpful for the short term, but in the long view of things, it doesnt allow someone to make sound logical decisions because they are making them on false pretenses. As hurtful as it may seem, it is always better, in my own opinion, to tell someone the truth. It might not win you any popularity contests but it will win you respect from anyone who has been lied to.

I think the lie, the dishonesty hurts the most.  Especially when we speak of relationships.  We develop relationships with one another, we are attracted to each other, and there must be some form of trust or the two would not be together.   I think the lie hurts more because you believed in this person, you shared your life, beliefs, fears, weaknesses, spirit, etc..... and they did not take all of who you are and cherish you...  they took a route and made decisions which betrayed you and the trust you built inside of them.  

For me, the truth would not hurt as much because I have enough confidence in my self and what I have to offer that the real truth of this so called "relationship" that I put my whole self into, is not going to survive and flourish into what I ultimately need in a partnership.  The truth to me, is knowing that I can continue my search and find someone who wants to be with me just because I am the woman I am.  This does not mean the lie hurts any less, because it doesn't.  But I flip it over to seek positive energy and truth in another soul.

Truth reveals what  really happens, lie gives you illusions.

Hurt occurs when both truth and lie do not meet your expectation.

Lies, because what if later you found out the truth. You'll hurt because they lied, and then you'll hurt because of the truth.

So actually both hurt. Just depends on which one comes first.
