  1. Anaearobic is without oxygen, you can get a build up of lactic acid and an example is Sprinting or Heavy weight lifting (low reps)

    Aearobic exercise is with oxgyen and "includes lower intensity activities performed for longer periods of time. Such activities like walking, running, swimming, and cycling require a great deal of oxygen to generate the energy needed for prolonged exercise to keep you at a certain energy level."

  3. Heart rate during exercise is the thing here.  Work out your 100% rate (220 minus your age).  Aerobic range is 65-80%.  Anaerobic range is 80-90%.

Anaerobic exercise is typified by hard and fast events such as sprinting (100 meters) in track or weight lifting.  Due to certain chemical processes in your muscles, you build lactic acid and that substance limits the amount of time you can exercise.  However, lactic acid is also important as it is the chemical stimulus to your body to grow more capillaries in your lungs and muscles so that you can deliver oxygen more effectively to muscles and exercise longer.

    Aerobic exercise is typically longer slower exercise.  The better shape you're in (more capillaries), the longer you can exercise as you can pick-up oxygen, deliver the oxygen to your muscles, and your muscles can use the oxygen more effectively.  In addition, the carbon dioxide that is made from aerobic exercise is carried away from your muscles to your lungs and you get rid of it more efficiently.   This will cause you to recover faster from your exercise (heart and breathing rates slow down more quickly) AND, you won't build as much lactic acid.

    You can tell if you're exercising at the proper aerobic level if you can talk to someone.  However, if you can sing you are not working out hard enough ... You shouldn't be able to sing.  

    Aerobic exercise is the main kind of exercise you should do if you simply want to improve health and/or lose weight.  Once in good aerobic condition, it is wise to add some weight lifting to your exercise program.
