What i must do?

I live in Italy and my friend lives in India,this summer i want to help him come in Italy.He tells me for coming here he needs the proof of an bank account that he doesnt have.I also must make a letter-invitation for his visa.I must make this letter to the India ambasy or Italy ambasy? I dont know how to proceed.What i must do for helping my friend coming here?

You would write a letter to the Italian embassy/consulate, describing your relationship to the visa applicant (your friend), how you met him, that you are inviting him to come meet you, that you will provide for all of his expenses while he is in Italy, and that he intends to leave Italy before his visa expires.  The rest is up to him.
