If I was going by car or shuttle bus, would just my passport suffice to cross from Windsor to Detroit? Or would they still want my license and/or birth certificate?

I lost my driver's license card when my wallet got stolen...I have a temporary paper one but the actual new card is still in the mail...

  5. AGREE with Nikki M.

However, update. There is a pilot program in BC to accept BC DL again ( http://icbc.com/ ). Currently piloted with 500 BC license holders. This "MAY" become permanent in time for the 2009 deadline.

  6. licences.some id.birthdcertificate.ur

    social security

  7. Passport will suffice.

  8. A current passport should be sufficient.

Take your temp. permit though too.

  9. A passport is NOT needed until January 1st 2009. A new law was issued. I believe a Drivers License AND/OR Birth Certificate is required though.

  10. The passport will be the required documentation in the future. Or the Passport card. Your DL will not be valid after the new laws take effect.

  11. Yet again, people spouting of incorrect information about the laws.  Geez, why do people feel the need to spread mis-information.

Ok here ya go: by car or bus right now (travelling either direction across the border) you will be required to show Government issued ID (such as a driver's licence) AND  proof of citizenship (such as birth certificate).

OR you can just show a passport.  So if you have one, YES it will work perfectly fine all on it's own.

This goes for all border crossings between Canada and the US.

Passport will be required in June 2009...if the law doesn't get pushed back yet again. (except for air travel, then it is 100% required).  The quote a previous poster shows is taken out of context and is for what the new laws WILL be.  I love when people don't read the whole thing *insert eye roll*

    Good luck!

  12. Passport or nothing.

Unless you are a minor then a birth certificate.

"U.S. citizens 16 years of age or over who re-enter the United States by land and sea to have a passport or other appropriate secure document like a NEXUS card."

Key here is RE-ENTER ....... you need your passport.
