  1. In long run yes.  Stalin was h**l bent on defeating Germany.  Even if Germany had conquered the UK mainland the UK had colonies throughout the world with military personal willing to fight, such as in Africa.  Given the rate at which the USA was able to generate weapons and manpower, this would have led to the downfall of Germany.

The USA had already began plans based on the British failing and having to launch attacks from the US mainland.  That is why they worked on developing the B-29 Bomber.  Its original use was to bomb German cities from the US mainland, fearing the lose of bases in Europe due to the British losing.

Had the UK lost the war would have taken much longer, as the US would have defeated Japan first then turned its entire military might against Germany.  With the USSR army and the US Navy able to turn their full attention of Germany they would have been bombed into submission.  Heck who knows the USA may have made cities like Berlin and Hamburg glow in the dark.

Had the allies lost you would see huge pockets of resistance.  There is no way to conquer the world.  No nation has the supplies or manpower to do so.  Also Germany would have had a difficulty getting troops to the USA to conquer it.  Also conquering the USSR would take huge amounts of troops and supplies based on its shear mass.

  2. It probably depends on whether or not the US or Germany managed to develop the nuclear weapons first.

  3. Well not the allies as such - the Soviets and the remnants of the British Empire would have had a struggle, but I think that with US help - don't forget, the US would have to invade Germany through the Soviet Union - Germany would have been defeated.

At Stalingrad their supply lines were at breaking point, and partizan activity behind the lines was increasing from Poland all the way to the front lines.

  4. I don't think so. If Hitler took England, than he would have gotten closer to the United States, but thanks to the RAF the tables were turned and Germany abandoned their attempt to take over the UK.

  5. Let's think this through. If Hitler had taken over Britain, in would have been in 1940, early 1941 at the latest. At that time there would have been no allies. Neither the USA nor the USSR were in the war at that time. The USA only entered because of Pearl Harbour. If that still had happened - and one can argue that it would not have as Hitler would have possibly persuaded his Japanses allies that it would be extremely unwise to anger the Americans, leaving them isolated - the US would have only had to fight a Pacific War. It would have had no interest in the European theatre. With Britain fallen, presumably the Dominions, as they then were - Canada, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand would have remained at war with Germany, but with little possibilty of any real success if only because of geographical constraints. That would also be the case of the colonial territories, but one can again imagine the Germans taking North Africa including Egypt and eventually putting troops into places like Kenya, Uganda and all the other British, French and Belgian colonies in Africa. That could have resulted in no invasion of Russia. Japan would have met little or no resistance in advancing into India (which may have dissuaded them from attacking Pearl Harbour). That would have alarmed Australia and one can imagine fierce fighting between them and the Japanese, but that may only have been defensive on the part of the Aussies. I imagine Hitler would eventually have invaded Russia, but at a time when he had nuclear weapons. My personal view is that it would have been unlikely that any belligerent action would have been taken by the Germans against the USA - Hitler was more interested in Europe and the East than the Americas. he would, however, have had control of the Middle East oil fields. What the US view of that would have been in the 1940s is difficult to imagine. They may have been prepared to accept the position, happy the rely on home production at that time. There would have been a Cold War between Germany and the USA and Japan, undoubtably, with possibly vast swathes of the USSR uninhabitable because of nuclear attacks, and the country possibly splitting apart as happened after 1990. No independance for Africa or India or any Far Eastern countries. They would be ruthlessly exploited by Gemany and Japan. Possibly Japan could have become bogged down in a long guerilla war in India. Possibly, the Middle East and oil would have been a flashpoint for conflict between Germany and the USA. Everything is pure hypothesis, however, for Hitler was completley unpredictable and may have done something that now we can not possibly imagine.

  6. The turning point of the war was when he marched on the Russian front in the winter.  Even if he had taken over Britain, he still would have had to contend with Russia.

  7. If this had happened it would have been in the second half of 1940 when Britain stood alone against Hitler and had no allies.

So the war would have finished by the end of 1940.

The Germans would then have controlled the Atlantic Ocean and the USA would probably have signed a non-aggresion treaty with Hitler leaving him free to attack the Soviet Union in 1941 which had been his original plan.

  8. Hard to say...ceatainly USA would have had a hard time launching an invasion into france...and without English help we would have had a much harder time conquering the skies and the seas as the british were instrumental in combatting German planes and subs.

Like the other guy said if we developped the nuke first we could have won...but Europe would have been completely completely demolished.

  9. The Allies would have won. Even if England was crushed, Hitler still made the phenominal, cataclismic errors of June 22 and December 8, both in 1941.

June 22, 1941- Operation Barbarossa begins: Germany sends the largest ever army on land into the USSR, starting a war with the second most powerful country in the world.

December 8, 1941- Hitler decides it is wise that, as the 6th Army dies in Stalingrad, while Rommel is chased across the North African coast, and while the East front stalls, and reverses, that he can take the US, too. Due to the Japanese "declaration of war" (cowards!) the day before, Hitler declares war on America.

So Hitler would still have alligned the two greatest powers on the planet against his forces, numbering in the 2-3 million man range to the Soviet 20 million-man army and the American army. So you tell me if that idiot could beat those odds!

  10. if we had lost, it would be like n**i germany...only much grimmer.

that would never have happened though. if germany would have taken the u.k., it would have been more difficult to win the war, but not impossible. look at the sheer number of allies, we had. on the axis side, there was germany, japan and italy. you tell me, do you really think we would have lost the war?

  11. First off Hitler would have taken Great Britain if it were not for his poor decision to switch from strategic military targets to civilian targets.

In switching Hitler failed to destroy British military industry, allowing more of the Supermarine Spitfires to be built which were a good match to the ME-109's,between the Spitfires and Hawker Hurricaines Britain was able to effectivly counter the attacks of the Luftwaffe, and ultimately end the Battle of Britain.

Had Germany taken over Britain things would have been more complicated.

Remember Britain was the door to France for the U.S. and fighting Britain also put Germany in the same precarious situation that it was in during The First World War : Fighting a war on two seperate fronts East and West.

With Britain conquered Germany could have reconcentrated it's troops to the eastern front,in much the same way as it did during WWI when Russia sued for peace and thus freed German troops which were then moved to the western front for Ludendorf's last great offensive of WWI the Kaiserschlacht, only in WWI it was already too late.

Taking Britain early in WWII could have been a disaster for Stalin's armies. As someone else mentioned the U.S. would have to go through Russia to get to Germany and possibly have to deal with the Russian winter as did Hitler.

With all of his resources concentrated on the eastern front Hitler may have had a chance of winning, but then again there is that brutal Russian winter.Napolean lost a war to it,Hitler may have had a chance though since he would not have been fighting on two fronts and could have possibly been properly prepared unlike operation Barbarossa, where his troops were ill prepared for the winter wheather and the already over taxed Luftwaffe was unable to keep the troops properly supplied.
