  1. you would get whatever the show payout was... but yes you would win

if you want to bet a single horse i would bet it across the board (meaning to win place and show)

i would also bet a Exacta Box which means you take the 2 horses that you think are going to finish first and 2nd and if it comes in either order of those 2 horses first and second you win... its a bigger payout then playing the horse just across the board.. it would cost you 4$ if you played it for 2$

i would also play a trifecta box which is almost the same as the exacta except you need the first second and third horse... these are usually where the bigger payouts are if you hit... but this would cost you $12 for a $2 play unless you dont play them boxed but then you would need the exact order that you tell the teller

  2. hey , if you bet on a winner to show it wins it depends on the horses odds. lets say the horse is 2 to 1 meaning the favorite to win depending on the amount of money bet for a win ticket you would get around $4.oo so a show ticket would only bring you about $1.20 so if your betting on the favorit just go for the win. whene betting on a long shot then betting a show ticket is better.  lol

  3. you can bet win 1  place 2  or show 3rd      regardless  of were you bet  if your horse comes in there or better you will win a little depending on your bet

havent been to track in a few years dont want to try to remember  combination bets

  4. a)  if you bet on a horse to show and he wins, then he has shown.  You win!  But you will not win nearly as much as you would have if you picked the horse to win.

    b) a)(single horse) Bet to win, place or show.  A win is a winning bet only if your horse wins, and you would win different amounts depending on the odds.  If the odds are first number much bigger than the second number (say 50-1), money money money.  If the odds are first number not much bigger than the second number (9-2), not so much.  A place bet is a little bit of a safer bet as your horse can finish first or second but the payout is not as big as a win bet.  A show is a still safer bet as your horse only has to finish in the top three.  (You'll see the show bet isn't available in some races of 5 horses or less.)  And the payout is the least of the three: win, place, SHOW.

b)(multiple horse)exacta bet:  If my exacta bet is 7/2, then I win a share of the exacta pool if the 7 horse wins, and the 2 horse finishes 2nd.  So if I was the only person to pick this combination at the whole racetrack, I would win all the money that everyone at the whole track put down on ALL exactas minus the 30-35% that goes to the house.  If me and 9000 other gamblers picked the 7/2 exacta I'd make 9000 times less money if it came in, as I would split the pool with 8999 others.  You can also "BOX" a 2 dollar exacta bet (7/2) for 4 dollars.  Boxing the bet is just a way of making 2 bets in one.  Now you would win whether the order of finish was 7/2 OR 2/7.

trifecta bet:  Same as exacta except take 3 horses.  Predict the entire WPS. example 2/7/11.  Box an 2 dollar exacta bet for 12 dollars , and win on 2/7/11, 2/11/7, 11/2/7, 11/7/2, 7/2/11, or 7/11/2.  Almost all trifectas pay nicely and some of them are ludicrous.

quinnella bet:  like an exacta except your 7/2 bet can finish 7/2 or 2/7.  The boxing is built in to this bet and there is a separate pool for it.

special bets:  There are also variants of bets where you can try to call the winners of say 6 races in a row.  If you call all 6 races, it's a huge payout.

  5. a)

You win when your horse shows.

    b)

win - you win when your horse is 1st

    place - 1st or 2nd

    show - 1st, 2nd or 3rd

exacta - pick the 1st and 2nd placers in a race in that order

quinella - like exacta but not in order

trifecta - pick the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placers in a race in that order

daily double - pick the winners in two consecutive races

pick six - pick the winners in six races
