  1. maybe some files or your system has been corrupt. try to check it so you will know where the problem lies thru the process of scanning.

start > run > type: sfc /scannow  (Windows File Protection will open). you may be prompted to insert your XP-CD. have it ready.

You need to update your windows also.

    after scanning, restart your PC.

  2. I would back up my data and reinstall the OS.

  3. You can try this to get your system files checked over:

    Click on Start.

    Click on Run.

    Type in:

    sfc /scannow

with one space between the c and the /

    Click Ok.

This may take a few minutes or over an hour and might want your Windows disk.  You might find things working properly again after that.

    EDIT:

Oh and you could also try Kelly's XP Korner:

    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com

Lots of stuff there and you might find a tool to repair the problem.

  4. I guess the registry has been jinxed. So try cleaning the registry with PC SpeedScan Pro and then make a backup of the disk.

If that doesnt work then try doing a good anti virus check.

    If nothing works, reinstall OS
