Question:

What if I don't like my dads girlfriend?

My dad left us for the second time (my mom took him back the first time) for another woman two years ago and recently she's moved to FL. At the end of the school year, I decided to spend my senior year with my friends but living with my dad. When I go back on Wednesday to PA, his new girlfriend is going to be there. I don't know, I guess I'm scared and I just really don't like realizing that my dad actually left me, my sisters and my mother for this woman that I've never met. Is there anyway to get over the awkwardness? What happens if I don't like her? What can I do so that I'm not so depressed whenever he mentions her?

  1. Try to find things that you both enjoy, and try to do the same with your mom. Do them as much as possible to help each other become friends, and then, it'll TOTALLY not be a problem, then, slowly, start trusting her more, and come to her with advice if you need. And for the akwardness, try a nice old remedy called COMEDY. And as for the idea of your dad leaving you, that can be VERY crushing. I understand. But, try to resign yourself, and let your dad have his decisions. If you don't believe it's the right choice, that's perfectly fine, but try not to dwell on it, and soon enough it'll go away. Hope this helps.

  2. Keep an open mind.  Remember, it is not her fault that your dad made the choice to leave your mom, nor you for that matter.  If she make your dad happy, that should be your main concern.  Don't force yourself to like her but try to find some good in her.  Accept the situation as it is, things just were not going to work out for your parents, it had nothing at all to do with you.  Your dad wants you to be a part of his life.

  3. i dont like my dads girlfriend either and they are having a baby so i can relate. i just stay away.
