  1. Relax...  she's probably just a bit over whelmed.  Birth was exhausting and now there are this little squirmy things all over...  weird!

In nature, momma kitties dont' stay with their kittens 24/7.  It's important that they DO spend time there, but they need to be busy with other things--eliminating waste away from the nest, hunting food, scoping out good places to move the nest, basking in the sun and all the other important catty things cats do.

Your kitty, of course, doesn't have the press to hunt and evade predators, but the principal remains...

It'd be boring for her to stay in the nest 24/7...  So she gets up and wanders away.  but she will, I promise, come back to feed them and keep them warm as need be.  Make sure the room they're in is not chilly or anything like that... make sure mom's litter box and food are easily accessable (she should be eating kitten food and have free access to as much food as she wants!)... and just watch to make sure she goes back every now and then.  Don't hover over much, but just keep an eye.

My momma kitty would go running back into the room and into her nest whenever I or my husband would walk into that room... but we'd only had her about a month or so when she gave birth.

Try not to worry TOO much... just watch and see.  Insticts are a wonderful thing...

  2. you can mommy them.

bottle feed them and act just like the mom would! :D

  3. She has to find food and water, if she is caring for the kittens, its ok.  Let her roam and find her food, she has been through a lot and needs nutrition.  To make this easier, put her food and water dishes near her kittens where she doesn't have to venture off so far.  Stay away from the kittens as much as possible, she may feel threatened by you.  Just check on them 1-2 times per day and don't touch for a week or 2!
