What if a homeless child approached you...?

Question

Tired and very sick from starvation and feeding from trash cans, by themselves because any adults that DID take care of them disappeared and/or died, and asked you,

"Please sir/ma'am, i haven't eaten and I watched you, i think you're nice people and i wish you could be my mommy and daddy...i don't want to go to an orphanage because i will be by myself and i will run away....please please please can you make me your daughter?"

What would you do?

If this child proclaims that he will run away from an orphanage, then I wouldn't adopt him, because he will run away from you as well. But the only advice is to take him to the orphanage to try to be a normal citizen.

There are laws that address this issue, mostly so that people can't abduct children or kidnap them.  The child says they are homeless and alone and certainly look it, but there are probably legal guardians somewhere.

I would buy the child a meal, or take them home to feed them, offer them a bath, clean clothes etc. and call the police.  That way the child is safe and comfortable and my family isn't arrested and my own children aren't taken away from me, the child abductor!

In the US it is possible for the police to allow the child to stay with us until matters are straightened out, or the child would be placed in a foster home. The child's legal guardians would also be found and they would also receive help.
