  1. They wouldn't sleep. If you'd ever been in an OR, you'd know how busy & loud they can be.


  2. Been in Medicine a long time, and never saw or heard of such an event.

    If the Anesthesiologist became unconscious for some reason, he/she would be immediately replaced with someone competent to carry on.

    Anything unusual would be noticed really quickly.

  3. We don't.  If we were to fall asleep during a procedure, it would be malpractice, because it is our job to watch the patient carefully throughout the procedure.

    Most of us are pretty good at entertaining ourselves during boring cases.  We also get used to staying up all night.

    I suppose we could call a colleague in to relieve if we needed to, but that would be a sign of weakness :)
