Do you just get free tea and coffee? Or is there anything more fancy? Many thanks for your help!

  1. Space, Peace from Kids, Food and drink included.

Applies to other companies as well.

  2. A better quality of passenger.

  3. When I used to travel by train up to Wales I alway bourght a standard class ticket an then upgraded whil on the train as it only cost an extra £15, instead of paying out £200 I would pay £90 (big saving!)

But in answer to your question. I did that as if you travel at breakfast time or about 16:00 you got a free meal served where you are seated as well as loads to drink, you was always garenteed plenty of leg room and the compartments were alway empty.

  4. if you travel during the week you get meals served at your seat.  During the weekend you get a free packed lunch type thing + drinks if you walk all the way to the other end of the train.

It is nicer, the seats are 2 1 combination rather than 2 2, more spacious.

If you travel on a weekend on a busy train Virgin trains open up first class to everyone so you could take a gamble and buy a dirt cheap ticket and still travel first class anyway!

  5. depending on what route / time / day you sometimes get food  , but definately lots of free tea, coffee and biscuits. Plus the obvious more space, table, plugs for lap tops/phone charger and peace and quiet!

  6. it just knowing your the first!

  7. Free Food and Beverages, More legroom, Genrally quieter as no kids running around.

  8. It's worth it on a Pendolino (feels posh), but on a Voyager (XC), forget it.  The only advantage on Cross Country is less overcrowding.

  9. Food available.

  10. you're at the back of the train so when it flys of the rails you escape injury

  11. You get complimentry tea, coffee, soft drinks, also some alcholic drinks too. And there might be complimentry snacks, like nuts etc.

  12. no there's nothing more fancy - you dont even get a better class of travelling companion

  13. Haven't you checked on Yahoo answers, to make sure I haven't allready answered this question, as I did so myself last week, and got best answer for it, so I'll just copy and paste my answer from before onto here:

On Pendolinos, It's WELL worth it, although i can't really comment on standard class, as i've only always travelled first class- For the reason you've raised- If you book in advance, and travel off peak, you can get great value returns, which are sometimes slightly less/more than the saver return.

I love Pendolino First class, and a menu for first class travel can be found here, to get you tempted (or not) to travel FC or not:

http://www.virgintrains.co.uk/travelling... Is for details of First Class travel

http://www.virgintrains.co.uk/img/first_... is for the ordinary Pendolino menu.

http://www.virgintrains.co.uk/img/first_... is for a sample Pendolino Primo menu.

Pendolino Primo, is basically a complimentary restaurant service to First Class ticket holders, on selected peak time services. Because they are only at peak times, virgin value first tickets are never available on them, athough I did personally get one, before they realised the glitch in the system.

I hope this helps you in making your decision. I've personally had a carriage literally empty, and so to myself on off-peak Birmingham to London trains a few times. (Often coach G, or H- H is the quiet zone in First Class.)

On Virgin Cross Country (our Voyager trains) :

You get a complimentary Snack box, soft drinks (tea coffee water hot chocolate orange juice) and also very nice biscuits etc served at seat during the day, on weekdays, between Newcastle/ Preston/Manchester and  Bristol/Reading.

At all other times- 18:00-20:00 on weekdays, and 05:00-20:00 on weekends- You can collect your stuff from the shop, in coach D.

Please note that the weekend snack box, doesn't contain a sandwhich etc, because of the fact the weekend one is designed to be stored for up to a few months in the shop, when there's no ordinary snack boxes being produced on the day.
