  1. The only benefit I can think of that specifically kicks in at age 60 is the winter fuel benefit.  If you think you can claim this check the details as the entitlement will depend on your date of birth, not just attaining 60.  In case that sounds confusing imagine your birthday is towards the end of October.  Your first winter as a 60 year old would not qualify but if you had been born in August it would have done.

    Oh, one other I've just thought of.  If you are not working then you do not have to pay voluntary national insurance contributions to preserve the right to the basic state pension.

    Most other benefits are the same for a 59 year old as a 60 year old.

    Your local Job Centre will be able to advise you. Phone them for an appointment.

    If you are long term sick or disabled you can still get certain help.
