If people were to maintain their driving schedules on carpool day there would be less cars on the highways thus reducing congestion, and they would save time and gas. Perhaps that would boost sales on that one day as people would have more time to shop, but probably wouldn't make a dent in the gas prices. Carpooling must be done on a continued, sustained basis in order to stir the economy and maybe affect gas prices as well.
