  1. I'd cope with it by riding to work and the store. In fact, I already do, and have saved loads of money. Cutting out lots of car trips is the only way to substantially save money on gas. Plus, you can forget about large gym expenses, you will get exercise while riding. AND it is good for the environment.

Think about it: Why drive to the store to get a carton of milk when you can ride and do all sorts of great things for you and others at the same time.

  2. It's considered a supply shock or cost push inflation. It shifts aggregate supply backwards. It will cause a contration in aggregate demand, prices will rise as a result of the the increasing cost of transporting services, and it will stunt economic growth.

sounds rather gloomy, however, on the bright side, it may mean less fuel is used - good for the environment, and encourages the invention for more fuel efficient cars and alternitive sources of energy.

I think to cope with it people will drive less, car-pool, take the bus/train more - perhaps governments will start giving people a rebate.

  3. Possible!

  4. European wealthy pay more per gallon or liter than Mainstream Americans. American Elite can pay more per gallon than Mainstream Americans. When only the elite can afford the price of gasoline there will be plenty of crude and refined product available.

Of course this will indicate the collapse of the automotive marketplace in the US. Elite wealthy drivers will be the only ones on the interstate. Mainstream Americans will be riding bicycles, buses, mass transit, and taxis.
