  1. Woohoo! It's worth $0.05 now... but maybe in the future... more? It depends on the conditon of the coin too if it is worth more.

The S means that the coin was minted in San Francisco. They actually do not mint coins for regular circulation from the San Francisco mint anymore. After 1971, the S San Francisco mint only has produced proof coins.

If you put the coin on ebay or craigslist, you might get someone that is willing to pay more because they want to complete a collection or coin folder.

  2. No I'm afraid that doesn't change the value. The "S" just means it was made in San Fransisco.  The special quarters out now that have "D"s and "P"s just tell which mint it was made at. It is an old coin and for big coin collectors, they may give more than $.05 for it. But to a bank or store, its only $.05.

  3. In 1955 the mint in San Francisco was basically closed. In but in the middle 1960's there was a coin shortage and it was reopened as a mint and from 1968-1970 the San Francisco mint struck coins for circulation. Your coin had a mintage of 120,165,000 so it is not a scarce coin and can be found in change today. A mint state example may sell for a $1 or so if in high grade. Circulated coins are common. Keep looking though for there are coins out there worth big bucks.

  4. That is the mint stamp San Fransisco.

  5. I would say its worth about 5 cents
