  1. Absolutely. That's the point of instruction. I don't think anybody has ever gotten it all right the first time. Don't stress out too much. You seem to care enough to study it, so keep it up. Also, don't be afraid to ask your instructor any questions. He or she will probably appreciate it more than if you scare them trying to figure it out yourself. They are there to teach you, so use them. Good luck. I think you'll do fine. If you don't get it exactly right, talk to your CFI about it so you can work it out. Everbody has to.

  2. eventually you will "understand" what they are asking, rather than trying to answer the question.   for example, in slow flight, you'll understand each setting (power, flaps, gear, carb heat (if needed) because that is what is needed to go slow.

instructors are trained as teachers too - they won't let you get in a situation that is harmful, and it doesn't hurt to ask, if you think they are going too fast.

i forgot the flaps on my soft field t/o on my check ride - as soon as the plane wouldn't do what i expected, i told the examiner, (while still rolling down the runway) and he let me do it again...they call it test jitters, and it is allowed!

one trick i like is to "flow check" the maneuver.  look at each k**b/handle/gauge, and let them remind me of what they should be set at.

ie, slow to 70, 2 notches flaps, carb heat, clearning turns - now, i look at the flap handle, check carb heat, check power setting, check mixture, check straight/level, check airspeed, cross check with turn indicator, check clock.......

this is the type of learning you can really enjoy!!!!
