you will need to apply for a visa, he will need to sponser you. You can enter Mexico and 'not work' for 6 months then you go back to mexico city and go to the US consulate and renew your stay for another 6 months while you are there.

We need more details to provide good answers for you.  Are you asking if you need a passport... a work permit?  Are you a US citizen... or a citizen of another country?  Will you be working short-term, or living permanantly in Mexico.
