What if one day, suddenly, somehow, religion is proven to be false?

This is a purely hypothetically and unlikely situation. But what if somehow, religion is proven to be absolutely 100% false. What would happen to our society? Would chaos ensue?

Please be aware that the only variable here is the outcome...don't focus on "how" religion was proven false. For the purpose of this question, the actual process of the proof is irrelevant but it is 100% accurate. There's no way to refute it.

  1. I'd really wouldn't be surprised because I was raised catholic, but recently I've been becoming more and more distant and I'm on the verge of becoming an atheist right now.

  2. I`d be pissed off to tell you the truth

  3. i don't think there would be chaos.  there have been a lot of theories that have been proved wrong after more research.  that's why i do not believe in religion.  there are too many for me to devote my life to one.

  4. If religion in the future will be proved false it  wouldn't surprise me at all, I have noticed the changes within the people beginning on having doubts, years ago whatever we were taught in schools or at home was not questioned we just obeyed and fallowed like good little sheep .

In today society we have seen too many things that have changed our ways of belief and thinking. I don't believe that religion is false, it was  created to teach us  the right way of being  good people by setting and giving us good examples .

I believe that some whom  teaches religion and takes advantage of the position that they have on abusing children and  filling their pockets on the trustworthier, those are the ones that give religion a bad name and give us the feeling of untruthfulness .

The future is very difficult to predict !, but from my point of view if things continue in the way that they're going we will be back in the city of Babel and we will be doomed.

  5. I don't believe much would happen . If anything at all.

GREEN PARTY RON>>... You certainly are full of yourself!

  6. then billions of ppl are let down

  7. Sorry, there are no absolutes in this world.  Religion cannot be proven or disproved for the simple reason it's a spiritual quest, not a law of nature.

  8. It might bring alot of people comfort but it has certainly brought its share of misery to many lives as well. Many I don't acknowledge their lives could be better because it is based on fear.

  9. That day is now! bit most people are too brainwashed to wake-up.

  10. that would simply be amazing! man created religion anyway, and who's to say that man is always right?

  11. To the other answer...nobody would have died for nothing.  As barbaric as humanity was at that time they needed something to jolt morality into the masses.

Mission accomplished.  Therefore those who died spreading a new train of thought to those who had never concieved morality have gotten their message to us.

Now it's too late.  If religion was proven wrong today, little if anything would change because we are so ingrained in our way of life now.

One thing that would change would be the parameters of the fight.  It would not be God vs the Devil but, right vs wrong as I'm sure people would line up on both sides of that.

The good thing is that most humans are good natured and I would think that Good/Right would always drastically outnumber bad/wrong regardless of the existence of Heaven or h**l.

I don't need to be scared to do right.  We'll be fine relax and and have faith in your fellow humans.

  12. First of all, "religion" does not mean belief in god, it means way of life.  The person who changes their engine oil every 3000 miles is practicing a religion.  It comes from the ancient Greek word "religioso".

The words theism and deism relate to believing in god(s).

Belief is the acceptance of something without proof.  Knowing requires proven fact.  They are opposites.

What would happen if believing in god ended in our human existence?  Probably, everyone would go insane because the stark reality and truth that there is no god and are no spirits would drive everyone crazy!  People would realize that intellectually, we humans really are all alone in this world!  Yet, animals have most or many of the same awareness and emotions that we do, which is why we get along so well with dogs, horses, birds, cats... and even aquarium fish to some extent if you're observant!

The religion of believing in god is an old subversion of mental intellectuality, it is the prime means of powerful people to control society and always has been.  Until people want real Democracy and genuine intellectual knowledge, they will continue to believe in the myths of gods and spirits and everything else humans have brainwashed themselves into believing!

And finally, more inhuman, cruel and horrible crimes against humanity have been conducted by believers in god and have done that for god (i.e. the seven Great Crusades were done in Jesus' honor, wherein they even burned whole villages of people alive - even in France - on their way to the islamic world!).  Time-Life books had two volumes on the tortures and murders committed by the Catholic church against their own members for hundreds of years, horrible things they have done that makes Joan of Arc's murder a brief and compassionate form of execution by comparison.  Not to pick only on Christians, Jews were pretty bad too, and that is why the Zoroast-influenced Jews split into the group that became Christians!

By the way, I am a "Non-theist", which is a higher level than an "Atheist".  And anyone who claims to be an "Agnostic" is just using that as an excuse for not having the honesty to select which way they think!

  13. if religion was originally false, it will never be false again simply because lies or  false ideas when told thousands & thousands times, eventually become truths, most especially when people hug them as they are to their lives.
