I like anime and i watch utena, naruto, dn angel, strawberrypanic, gravitation, and many others which are a lot to list. I guess you could say i am a fanatic about anime and japanese culture. anyway, where would i go to buy good japanese groceries and learn how to cook them. is there a grocery store and a special cooking book that would help me out now, without it being too expensive?

  1. The largest Japanese Q&A community is called OKWave (www.okwave.jp) they recently launched a U.S. subsidiary at http://us.okwave.com/ that may be able to field any questions you have about food/recipes and good places to shop in your local area.

  2. You won't be able to cook Japanese food everyday because food cost too much and your cholesterol level would skyrocket. I don't know where you live but in California there are alot of Asian grocery stores you just have to search. Demographics

  3. It is a wonderful cuisine but I would not let your love of anime drive your decision to change your diet.   Start with learning how to make sushi, gyoza, tempura or the great Japanese noodle dishes.   Make yourself a salad with a ginger salad dressing, make some miso soup.   Once you have mastered a few of those, move on to the more complex dishes.

If you live in near a larger city like New York ,Los Angeles or Chicago, you should be able to find many shopping options.    If you live in a small town in the middle of Nebraska, you would be better served buying your specialty groceries on-line.

  4. Start out eating at a Japanese restaruant and see if you like the food enought to bother making it.  Order a Bento Box at lunch, and maybe order something from the tepahyaki grill for supper.  Be sure to try miso soup as well.

  5. check out your locla whole foods...where i live whole foods will give some ethnic cooking classses once a month..i love japanese food too and i learnt to make sushi from one of the classes i attended

  6. Your grocery store should have Japanese food.  Sushi can be made with rice, and fish.  Or you can do a search to help

  7. Go to the library and see if there are any cookbooks; I am sure there are. Go to www.yellowpages.com and see if there are any in your area. I love the food but I'm afraid to cook it.
