  1. Then you hope the secondary policy will help out.

YOU don't get to pick which policy is primary, if that's what you're asking.  You can't CHANGE your primary policy, because you don't like the coverage.  It doesn't work that way.

  2. well, if you dont like the primary insurance, cancel it. then the other will be primary and everyone will be happy.

  3. If you mean that the primary insurance doesn't have good benefits in comparison to the secondary insurance, usually the secondary will pick up the balance after the primary has paid UP TO what they would have paid if they were primary.

But you will have to look at the COB clause in the 2nd insurance policy to know how they will pay.

  4. Then you file with the secondary insurance, and  you have to submit a copy of the explanation of benefirts or denial from the first coverage.

  5. Not sure that I understand your question completely, but here's the bottom line.

The birthday rule applies to children.  It means whichever parent's birthday falls FIRST in the calendar year, is the primary insurance on the kids.  You can't CHOOSE which insurance is primary.

If the primary insurance isn't all that great, then it's highly possible the secondary insurance will pick up what's not paid for by the first.
