My girlfriend was staying at my families house for a couple days and we were packing to leave for vacation when someone stole her duffel bag with over $1,000 in things. We are insured with USAA, do they cover her losses or does she have to file with her own family?

  1. Since her belongings are not yours, she has to file on her own policy, or her parents, if she still lives with them.

Usually, homeowners policies will cover up to $1000 to $5000 for personal property away from the insured premises.

Was there a police report? If not, have her file one for the record and insurance requirements.

  2. No, she has to file under her own homeowners, or her parent's homeowners policy.
