What if the alcohol is almost done fermenting, is that safe to drink and get drunk off of?

  1. yeah, it's safe to drink at any stage of fermentation.  if you're making beer, though, it will change dramatically.  a couple days into fermenting, it will be sweet and of course low in alcohol.  near the end of fermentation it will almost be beer, a bit sweet, but will be flat.  

    if you were making wine, since its not carbonated, the main difference is that it is sweeter than wine.  it also may be a bit harsher, especially if it's just nearing the maximum alcohol content.  that's why we age wines for a while, but if theres still a couple % left in it, you should notice the sweetness more than any alcohol harshness.  

    just avoid the yeast ;)
