2 years ago, the difference for substantial.  plasma was heavier, more costly, less life expectancy, and had glare issues.  Now, all of these issues have been resolved except the glare issue.  it has gotten better, but you will still need a room with very dim lighting to prevent the glare.  plasma sets now are priced below lcd.  side note, unless you're using the tv as a status symbol, DLP projection is still the best value.
