I am breeding dwarf gouramis and last night between 9 and midnight, they bred!!! YAY! But she only laid approxamatley 150 eggs, and there should be btween 300-800. She is still noticeably full, but I took her out this mornig because every time she nipped at his tail to say she wanted to breed, he chased her away, like he should when they're done. Does he think they are done?? A male gourami in my other community tank is now chasing her around! Does he want to breed? ALso when should I expect the eggs to hatch??? Please answer all these q's. 10 POINTS FOR BEST ANSWER!!! I promise! Thanks!

  1. If he will not breed again, do not put her back in, he might kill her. The eggs will hatch in about 2 days, but the fry will not be free swimming for another 3. Once they are free swiming you can remove daddy. If the male in the comunity tank wanted to breed, he would build a bubblenest.

  2. I believe that they lay less as beginners and then lay more as they are more "experienced". Atleast that's how my livebearing fish do things.

  3. If the female didn't release all her eggs it simply means that it wasn't time for those certain eggs to come out. But they should be let out in a week or less. Also the time the eggs will hatch will vary on how good you take care of them. So you may want to keep that in mind.

  4. The eggs may not hatch, you put her into a tank with a male that is not her mate, I don't know much about guaramis, but some fish mate for life with one partner, and other fish are a threat to the eggs, she may end up eating her own young due to stress. I would suggest that you put her back in her tank with her hubbie and let nature take it's course.
