What if the passport expires while it is awaiting for the extension of visa?

What is the legal entitlement if the passport expires and it is still with the home office for the extension of visa ? What if home office is taking ages to process the visa and not responding after contacting them through e-mail, fax , phone?

  1. A passport is good for 10 years for an adult, and 5 years for a child.  If it is getting that close, perhaps you should go ahead and file for a renewal of the passport.


  2. This is exactly why many countries want a passport to have 6 months validity left on it when you submit for processing.

    Your passport is void along with all visas in it. Contact your passport office for as replacement and start over for the visa.

  3. You can bet that they will not put a visa into an expired passport.  It is your responsibility to renew your passport, not theirs.  If they get ready to put the visa into it and notice that it is expired or close to expiring then they will notify you and you will have to renew and send the new passport.  The wait will start all over again.

  4. if they haven't returned your passport to you, then you're fine, you can still stay in this country during this period, nothing to worry, if your visa application get refused, that's when you should worry, but most likely you will pass, good luck,
