What if the terrorist attacks of 9/11 never happened. what effect would that have on us positive/neutral/neg.?

There would be a few thousand more people whose lives would not have been tragically cut short by a bunch of murdurous Islamic fanatics.  There also would have been no war in Iraq, since Bush would not have been able to use this as a pretext for war.
