Imagine if they found large oil reserves in Antarctica:

Would there be a war of who is getting the oil? would the US try somehow to take over it? if yes then how?

Just wondering, since Antarctica doesn't belong to anyone, so technically no one has the right to control it

  2. A hands away from Soviet Antarctic Continent!

Antarctic Continent was discover by the Russian sea-navigator Bellingshausen in January 20, 1820.

This was the special expedition, which tsar's government sent on the searches of the Southern Arctic continent.

According to  right of discovery,  this continent and all its natural resources are belong to Russia.

Other  countries, claiming Antarctic Continent, are usurpers.

Having regard to the merits of England and Norway in research of the South pole, these countries have a prerogative right on the receipt of concessions for development of the Russian deposits of oil in Antarctic.

It is possible also to consider a question about the grant of similar rights for Estonia and Germany (Bellingshausen was Baltic German, who gave birth in territory of present Estonia).

Certainly, on condition that these states will break off relations with EU and NATO and will halt any hostile propaganda against a government and people of Russian Federation.

  3. Meta Knight oil cant freeze that easily. Russia has oil too and its freezing there.

  4. Antarctica is international territory by a treaty entered into by just about member state of the United Nations over forty years ago. The U.S. was one of the leading proponents of that treaty and that designation for that continent.

Of greater concern is the chance of finding petroleum and natural gas in the waters off the Spratley Islands in the South China Sea. Five or six nations have claimed sovereignty over those islands, including China, Indonesia and Vietnam. Now that could lead to a war!

  5. Actually, the whole of Antarctica has been divided up between various nations, in territories extending from the South Pole like a pie chart. Argentina has a section, as does Australia, the US and the UK, amongst many others. These nations would have rights to the oil under their parts of Antarctica.

  6. Umm they would take it over and protect it? Yes Yes oil right?
