You get to pay them what they say it's worth for it.  They'll never believe that you actually lost it.  I used to work at Blockbuster and they trained us to charge the replacement fee which is essentially what it costs Blockbuster to buy a new DVD if the customer never brings back the rental.  Once you get past a certain number of days past the due date, no excuse will do.  If you refuse to pay the fee, they'll terminate your Blockbuster card and you won't be able to rent from them anymore.
