  3. Learn skills and pointers from the best and practise, practise, practise.

  4. just practice alot and play with your friends. you dont have to be good at something if you really love it.

  5. haha well everyone else has said this but practice! :) it really helps. i'm a middle and i've learned over the last four years that there is no magic formula to get better. you should try to incorporate volleyball into your life as much as possible if you want to improve; go to local drop-ins(there are usually some weekly at community centers and high schools), join a league, register to some beginner camps, and play with your friends. It might seem difficult to see results at first, but once you get a hang of it, its really fun =)

  6. You practice. Then, you love it more.

  7. keep working at it to get better

  8. Anyone who's any good at any sport (including volleyball) is because they put the time and practice into it. And the more games you've played - the better you will become.

There is a long learning curve for volleyball - and only lots of practice will give you the confidence like an experienced player has.

I would suggest buying a cheap practice volleyball - these ones can take hard knocks anywhere, like against concrete and brick walls. You just need a friend or two, etc to practice with - you can dig, set and spike to each other, without a net - so that you can have confidence in your ball handling skills.

Even by yourself - you can toss the ball up and spike it against a wall - do this for 15-20 mins a day, over weekends, etc and within a month you should have confidence in spiking. Just look at some good volleyball players on the TV, video, DVD, etc and see how they do it. You need to get use to going for a spike when you get a decent set - and only a lot of practice will give you that confidence.

You can 'set' the ball by yourself, either against a wall or straight up. For digging practice - you do need a friend, and the more the better.

Read up a bit from there, and elsewhere...

Never give up, practice, practice practice.

  9. Work your butt off. Give your whole self. ANYONE can be good if they work hard enough.

my all time favorite saying is "Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard."

I know its hard sometimes to give the effort, but you'll never if you had the potential to be good, if you dont work hard to realize it. & if you arent good, so be it. It didnt deserve you anyway. " Not trying is worst than failing."

to get better- eat right(thats the hardest one for me), run, lift weights, do core exercises, read articles, books and websites on volleyball, watch actual college or pro games(i've subconsiously picked up alot of fine details from watching them play). I was/am sorta like you, & if you truely love the game, and you're willing to work hard- anything is possible.
