What if you didnt renew your pass before yours expires, Is it the same price as getting a brand new one?

It depends on the park. but i know that i have been allowed to renew as long as it was not more than a week. the reason they usually allow that is because if you are working/going to school and your pass expires on Wednesday, you will not be able to renews until saturday or Sunday. but each par is different.
