What if you have air conditioner on but not in the window?

they basiclly said it all but if you thinking about those portable ill let you know all ive seen are basicly like fans they suck. Expecally in humidity.  Cuz theres know cold air to suck in.

the heat from the motor will heat up your house and without fresh air coming through the back you are just wasting electricity

In theory, the net effect between the evaporator cooling the air and the condensor heating the air would be no change in room temerature.  But because no system is 100% efficient and the heat that's given off from the fan motor and compressor, the end result would be a gradual rising of ambient temerature in the room  (besides the puddle of water).

what Sue Ellie said plus you will have a puddle of water out the back from the dehumidifying effect.  you can buy room air conditions that are considered portable and do not need to be stuck in a window.

the hot air blowing off the condenser would counteract the cool air blowing off the evaporator, thus nullifying the reason to have it on.
