  1. In the worst case, you'll have to wait for the next flight out - and the airport should pay for room and board for the night, and get you a seat on the next, even if it means bumping someone off.

This is the norm, unless missing the connecting flight was your own fault (like my friend missing a connecting flight because he was in a bar). Then you'll have to buy your own seat, when another one becomes avaliable.

  2. If you miss your connection and their are no flights for 24 hours, you're basically stuck.  If you missed the connection because you took to long getting your Starbucks or failed to pay attention to the departure times, you are on your own getting a hotel room for the night and trying to catch that next flight (or sleeping in the airport).  However, if you miss your connection due to a airline delay, if they don't call ahead to hold your next flight, they will usually assist you with the hotel accomodations if it was their fault you missed your connection.  My advise with a 30 minute connection time, RUN to the next flight and when you get there, if early, at least then you can relax a bit until the flight leaves.  Also, advise the crew on your first flight of your narrow connection window and they can assist you in getting off quickly.  When off the plan, go right up to the gate agent and advise as well and ask if they can call ahead to the next flight to let them know you are coming.

  3. Before flying, do consider to purchase a Comprehensive Travel Insurance. This is assist you with the subject of any miss connection or worst flight delay or cancelled.

Most Carriers' will do their utmost not to encounter any of the above. This involved lots last minutes arrangement and cost involve to the said carrier's.

Meanwhile, if you facing such situation. First remain calm and keep yourself updated by the carrier representative pertaining to the flight delay situation.

Most carriers' will assist the effected passengers with alternative flights, meals, transportation, accommadation, etc during the layover due to the flight delay.

Always good to carry sufficient necessity item in your carry on luggage. This will enable stranded passengers to change cloths, medication, etc.

Bottomline, nobody want to be in miss connecting flight and being pro active will assist you with the preparedness.

  4. Many things could happen... here is the most likely things.

    1. Even though your airline might not have another flight, the airline may put you on another airline that can get you there.

    2. If its weather related, the airline WONT pay for your hotel most likely. Anything else they ussualy will put you up in the hotel for night, until your flight the next day.

  5. If you miss your connection because your first flight was delayed, the airline can give you a discount voucher for a hotel room and will rebook you on the next available flight - if your flight was on time and you just couldn't make it to your connecting flight...be sure to bring an "emergency fund" for a hotel room and a new ticket.

It might help to study the map of your connecting airport beforehand - that way, you can figure out how to change concourses (if need be) and know the layout a bit before you get there and start running. :)

    I wish you luck.

  6. In the worst case, the airline should pay to put you in a hotel and give you some meal vouchers (assuming it's the airline's fault that you missed the connection).
