  1. just install seatbelts. it could save your life and a ticket which costs money.

  2. Of course you can drive it, just that by law, it's illegal. Once driving is illegal, it's not recommended for driving.

  3. dont take a chance. you need seatbelts not only to avoid tickets but to avoid dangers like car crashes. if u really value ur life, add seatbelts immediatly!

  4. If the car did not come with them, then you can't use them can you? Yes you can use it.

  5. You have to have seatbelts installed.

  6. If your car has no seat belts then when it gets inspected it will fail safety which means you will get an S = safety sticker where you cannot drive it until there are visual seat belts

  7. Your car would not even pass inspection if you did not have seat belts and it would be illegal to do so without them.  you will not be able to drive that car legally anywhere in the USA it is a nationwide law.  You can drive it on private property but the streets are considered public so good luck.

  8. click it or ticket! haven't you heard that. I would get seat belts installed. they can save your life or someone elses that you love. Also there are seat belt checks everywhere now where i live {PA} so if you get seen by a cop you'll have to pay a fine and they are legally allowed to take your car until you get the seat belts installed! and if you don't get caught then, you will when you get your car expected, you'll fail!

  9. If the car was built this way from the factory and it is classified as an antique or classic I know in Texas you dont need seat belts but since I dont know where you live it would be best if you called you local (DMV) office...

  10. Your completely unlucky. If ur in the uk you face a fine and penalty points (3). In addition to that, its not safe for you...Even if the car was originally factory fitted that way...the law here now says you must wear a seatbelt. (including your passengers) -Some law surely applies else where in the world

  11. The way you describe it, it IS legal. back in the 50's and 60's seat belts were optional equipment. NOT mandatory.

Its like asking  " Do I need to equip my car with shoulder straps or air bags?"

If the car was built in 1965, and it was built to conform to standards in affect in 1965, then those standards apply. You cannot modify anything to conform to future standards.

Case in point--- if your car had air bags installed, and then you took them off or disabled them, you fail inspection, If the car never had airbags it passes.

Of course, you can modify the car and install seat belts, but that would take about $10,000 off the price of the car.

And if it has historical plates on it, you should not routinely be driving the car.
