We are in front of monitors and letters every day. I'd like to know what bad is being done to my eyes when they are feeling tired and prickly.

  1. Yes, using them until they're like that strains them. Give them a break every hour or so.

Your eyes are more prone to developing conditions such as short-sightedness, which results in needing glasses. Severe levels of this can risk retinal detachment, which is dangerous.

  2. It's a myth that using your eyes too much in front of monitors and letters cause shortsightedness or even retinal detachment.  None of that sort.

The only thing that can happen is eye straining or in medical parlance "asthenopia". A new syndrome called computer vision syndrome was recently introduced to highlight this condition but is basically one and the same thing.  That takes care of your feeling of tiredness.  Now for the prickly feeling, that's because we tend to decrease the amount of blinking when in front of a computer causing dryness of the cornea. Pop some artificial tears and you can keep on going.

Regarding monitors, better to use LCD. CRT monitors tend to reflect back any light coming from your back and can cause more eye straining. Position it in such a way that the top edge of the screen is at your eye level.

  3. idk something really really bad .!!!!
