The 15 economies of the eurozone contracted by 0.2% between April and June, heightening fears that the euro area is sliding towards recession.

Are you affected?

The German economy, Europe's largest, shrank by 0.5% in the second quarter compared with the first three months of the year, the first decline since 2004.

In both France and Italy GDP shrank by 0.3% in the second quarter. The downturn was largely driven by a decline in exports and a slowdown in consumer spending.

Do you live within the euro area?

Is the slowing economy having any impact on you?

What can be done to turn the economy around?

  1. It means nothing.  Business cycles are just that, cyclical.  They will go into and out of the recession.  Take an historical look at the Euro Zone. In 1945 Europe was in tatters.  Now.... you get the point.

  2. Recessions come and go in cycles. We'll struggle through the next one and come out the other side, same as always.

  3. ah have your say... the trashcan of the internet.

a 0.2% contraction isn't really measurable in any sort of reliable form; this is collected from international statistics, if someone in a particular area relates this contraction to their area, they clearly must have experienced a greater percentage contraction as I don't think you can actually convert 0.2% into a tangibly recognisable change... if a few business went under or an area suffered a wage cut then you can take that as an indicator of the wider change... but the best indicator is of course the original statistic.

  4. It will have no impact at all on us.
