What impact does the Ipod have on the environment?

This is a question i have to answer for an assignment and I've been struggling with it for weeks. Any help anyone can give me i would be really wonderful...

Well disposing of one isnt good, it is a fact that tech trash is the fasting growing waste in America. the reason for that is that all the different metals in different quantities makes it almost impossible to recycle them. so i am guessing that ipods are the same and the tough plastic shell doesnt look like a soda bottle so its not like thats something that you can recycle. but if you look at it, if you're doing digital downloads and not buying cds i guess thats helping the environment in volume at least.
