  1. Egyptian Priests were the only people initiated in the "mysteries" of theeir religion. They were the ones who knew about the "miracles" behind the gods doings, behind the labyrinths of the temples and the pyramids. Their superior knowledge of the laws of physics, and chemistry made them superior to the other folk in the Anchient Egyptian State, and therefore they could hold the power bordering on the unlimited. Beyond that was only a pharoh, but even that is arguable, considering that the pharoh was chosen by the priests.

  2. We all imagine that Egypt had a special priest cast, separate from the rest of their society, as we do today, however this was not the case...

A priest was usually an ordinary person, who could also read and write...

The hieroglyph for priest, was a washboard follwed by a raised axe, indicating that priests could be launderers, butchers, or in the military, as long as they were individuals with integrity...

  3. Priests in Ancient Egypt were people who took care of their temple had in depth knowledge of the "god" that the temple was supposed to worship. Usually the priest's families were involved in the temple somehow. This was a family job, which once the father died the son and family would pick up were they left off.

  4. Same as today, seeing to the needs of the alter boys.

  5. They were elders that prophesied to the people.  They also were considered "above" all the people.  Please remember the role that 12 year old Jesus played in the undoing of the priests with his wisdom and intelligence.  He totally put them down....
