I heard Naomi Campbell talking about yet another incident at the airport and she said someone on British Airways called her a gollywog, what on earth is that. I'm from America so therefore never heard the word before. Is it the british version of the "N" word?

  1. No. We have the N word aswel lol. A gollywod is a black doll from I beleive the 80s or 90s. Because the dolls were black it is concidered racist to say the word for some reason i dont understand. http://www.albury.net.au/~tim/chgolly.ht...

  5. A contreversial black doll popularised by Robertson jam, the doll was later found to be politically incorrect and manufacturing of these cute little characters was illegal. Nowadays, the word gollywog is misused to call someone of black skin

  6. It's like calling someone a "Sambo" from Kipling's kid's tale.  It's an insulting racial slur.

I didn't know about the doll;  thanks, all!

  7. It's a black doll with some controversial meanings. I can understand why black people would find it offensive, it's very unflattering and the least bit cute!
