  1. Great question, this one takes some though.

    1.  Joe Louis/Max Schmeling II, the most significant moment in boxing history.

    2.  Muhammad Ali/Sonny Liston  & then almost two decades later Muhammad Ali/George Forman, both huge upsets for Ali who was expected to lose both of these, they were two of many defining moments in Ali's storied career and neither can be discussed without the other being mentioned.

    3.  Steele stopping the Chavez/Taylor fight with less than ten seconds remaining, after Taylor won every round.  Meldrick even won the round Chavez KOed him in, and I don't criticize Steele, I agree with the stoppage, but it was as dramatic as it gets.

    4.  The Tyson ear bite of Holyfield is up there, it was the second one that pushed it past sanity into the realm of the surreal, we all knew Mike was out there, but nobody expected cannibalism in the ring.

    5.  The Tarver left hook that KOed boxing's P4P best, nobody expected to see Roy Jones Jr. flat on his back, I think it was more shocking than Firpo knocking Dempsey out of the ring.

  2. Heres the ones that I feel.

    1. Louis kayo's Schmeling: Not only avenges a loss but has all of the free world on his side and brings a nation together if only for a night.

    2. Douglas kayo's Tyson: Tyson is considered invincible and Douglas with nothing to lose gives him a royal whipping in the biggest upset in boxing history.

    3. Chavez kayo's Taylor: Taylor is dominating with speed and precision for most of the fight but is taking a beating in the process, he is knocked down and the fight is stopped with 2 seconds left.

    4. Foreman kayo's Moorer: Trailing on the cards and getting beat to the punch every round Foreman lands a straight right that makes him the oldest Heavyweight champ ever at 45.

    5. Leonard kayo's Hearns: Trailing on the scorecards and with a closed eye Leonard is told ''Your blowing it son'' by Angelo Dundee, he then comes out like a monster and knocks Hearns out in a dramatic finish to a classic fight.

Those are the first 5 that come to mind. The first one I watched on film and talked to old timers at the gym who say it changed the course of boxing and affected them all. The other 4 I witnessed (except Tyson - Douglas) in person and that's why I picked them because moments like those burn in your memories forever. Great Question!!!!!

  3. Leonard-Hagler and Frazier-Ali1.  Both fights were historic from a competition level.

Louis-Schmeling2-taught Hitler a little lesson about his master race theory.

Tunney-Dempsey 2-most anticipated fight ever and the first superfight.

Ali-Foreman.  Everyone thought Ali was headed to the gallows, ended up KO-ing the KO artist.

Runners up:  Holmes-Cooney, Johnson-Jeffries, Louis-Braddock, fights that happened under heavy racial tensions.  Mancini-Kim, changed boxing forever.

  4. holyfield ~ tyson 1, as evander was virtually written off by that time.

frank bruno beating oliver mc call for the title.....this is a personal one for me, as it was nice to see bruno finally win a title, and the last round was a nail biter as bruno was tiring badly and only had to stay on his feet 'till the final bell to win.

steve cruz beating barry mc guigan, all even going into the final round, two knockdowns, and 10-7 scoring gave it to cruz (as well as a point deduction for low blows).

benn ~ mc clellen, benn being put through the ropes in the opening minute, fights his way back into it, face swelling up and still coming on strong, then the near fatal injuries that occured that night.

orlando canizales ~ billy hardy.... in early '90, hardy took on the IBF bantam champ and almost beat him (i had hardy winning), in a cracker of a fight.

  5. id say in no peticualr order

    - douglas beating tyson

    - dempsey vs firpo

    - ali vs foremon

    - ear biting done by tyson

    - oscar de la hoya winning against julio ceasar chavez

    thanks

    ~Cherokee74

  6. tyson biting off an ear (immediatley thought of that)

    and Tyson getting KO'd

  7. 1. The unfortunate result of the "Boom Boom" Mancini/Deuk Koo Kim bout.

    2. George Foreman winning the heavyweight title from Michael Moorer in the 10th round by knock out while behind on all the cards.

    3. Jack Johnson winning the World Heavyweight title from Tommy Burns after being denied a title fight for years by Burns and James J. Jefferies.

    4. Muhammed Ali winning the heavyweight title after being suspended from boxing for three years because of avoiding the draft.

    5. Joe Louis' 1st round KO of Max Schmeling - a fight being broadcast live on radio throughout Germany

PS...a recent honorable mention (Kelly Pavlik's KO of Jermaine Taylor after survivng a near knock out in an earlier round) ok not quite as significant but I liked the fight lol

  8. 1, Ali beating the invicible Foreman in Zaire in 74

2, Frazier knocking Ali down with that sweet Left Hook in the 15th of their first fight which made all the difference in the fight of the century.

3, Louis beating Schmelling so easily and decisively in their rematch. Dramatic due to the political undertones as well.

4, Douglas knocking out the most fearsome man on the planet and at the time supposedly unbeatable Tyson.

5, Hagler Vs Hearns the 3 round war, most dramatic fight ever as far as furious action goes.

Some honourable mentions go to Johannsons destruction of Floyd Patterson, Ali beating Sonny Liston, The Fan Man flying into the ring at the Bowe Vs Golota fight, the 9th round Gatti Vs Ward 1st fight, the 10th round Castillo Vs Corrales first fight, Dempsey taking out the giant Jess Willard.
