My guess is 35/40K, am I wide of the mark? Ive been self employed for over 20 years so I think I may have lost touch.

  1. The average wage is just below £30k. But as with all averages, this is pushed up somewhat by those on mega-high wages. The mean wage, ie that which ia earned by most people is about £22k, a bit more in London.

  2. Averages don't mean much, it probably depends where you live. During the 80s I could earn nearly £400 pw, but in the 90s I had to care for my dad after his stroke and never could get back on my feet for long. Then mum developed dementia and I cared for her until last year, never got above minimum wage since and jobs never lasted anyway, probably do better if I was younger. So averages mean nothing to me.

  3. Well I thought it was about £14,000 but apparently it's actually about £25,000.

  4. It depends on what type of job

  5. This was harder to find out than I expected.  According to the BBC average weekly earnings were £457 in November last  year - that's nearly £24k pa.  But while men were averaging £498 pw, women were only averaging £394 pw - that's a huge gender gap!

EDIT - Dave B/Proper Shambos/Whatever - yes I suppose you're right; we don't really value caring and teaching very much in this country do we?

  6. About £2.54p per hour, and a carrot for good behaviour in the deepest and darkest parts of Cornwall.

  7. about 22k

  8. Agent Zero is right.

(I´m a teacher and I earn less than that .Maybe I should take up lapdancing instead.)

  9. id say about 20k?!?

  10. The last time i looked it was around £25-£26k a year but that was about a year and a half ago may have risen or fallen since then.

Being self employed is the way to go IMO, it's an area i'm looking in to and the thought of working hard for myself instead of some ungrateful faceless moron sounds good to me!
