  1. I understand that the UNO need an expansion in the permanent seat because the status quo of the permanent members has not changed since the council's first meeting in 1946, and the make-up of the Security Council has become a pressing issue for the UNO.

Germany, India, Japan and Brazil - known as the G4 - and the African Union are among those who are lobbying for coveted permanent-member status.

The Council is composed of five permanent members — China, France, Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States — and ten non-permament members (with year of term's end):

    Belgium (2008) Italy (2008)

    Qatar (2007)

    Congo (Republic of the) (2007)

    Panama (2008)

    Slovakia (2007)

    Ghana (2007)

    Peru (2007)

    South Africa (2008)

    Indonesia (2008)

Ten non-permament members, elected by the General Assembly for two-year terms and not eligible for immediate re-election. The number of non-permanent members was increased from six to ten by an amendment of the Charter which came into force in 1965.

  2. Acouple of years more and India will be invited to occupy the seat in the security council as a permanent member. By then we should develop our nuclear might but for peaceful purposes only.

  3. i believe that india has the potential that's why some of the countries o the UNO opinioned to give permanent seat to her. but i think that others which r not in the favour of imparting this status to her perhaps afraid of her power coz india now has nuclear status. more economic development, defence creation can do wonders in this regard.

  4. Supremacy in nuclear power.

UN is not truly representative. About 30 yrs ago Taiwan not Mainland China was in security council.

  8. United Nations Organisation is a remote of the white men (Super Powers) to control the other weak countries of the world to impose sanctions, stopping from becoming equally powerful like them and to wage war on the Nations with flimsy grounds.

Population is not the criteria and white Population is the asset.

  9. If a country having nearly 1/6th of the population of the world is not given a permanent seat then how can the UN be said to exist for all the people of the world???

  10. Wait and see the fate of the so called UNO. Very soon, India will be the most respected country in the world.

  11. India does not want to give in to every condition made. It believes in political non-allignment. It will have to make an open policy approach. But I think India should stick to its stand and in any case, we are holding a major chunk of world population so they cannot keep us out too long.

  12. Only Superpowers are given a permanent seat in the Security Council of the UN.

  13. A lot of 'lobbying' needs to be done in expert manner, and in a few years time, India will be in the rightful place!

  14. Although India has a large population rate, its poverty rate and illiteracy rates are through the roof.
