It has a quite impressive influence.   Back when I was a teenager, I used to get really depressed, and music was the one thing that cheered me up.   This happens with a lot of American teenagers.   We turn to music to calm us down and get us through the day.  

Music has changed a lot to adapt to our needs and tastes.  

A lot of music today is distasteful, but I wouldn't say that it creates a lot of harm to society.    A lot of people just listen to that music sometimes for the beat, because it's good to dance to.  

Music helps bring a lot of people together to socialize.
