What info do I need to find a planet in a telescope?

I know my location 32.927 Degrees N and 111.517degrees W. I would like to know how do i look for planets? Like whats the definitions? of looking up and what direction and what not.

  1. Well but your telescope at your directions.  

    Everything rises from the east and lands in the west, So that should be a problem.

    Just look through your telescope and seel if you can find anything that is brighter then a star. That would be the planet youa re looking for.

    This is great freeware you can download.  Tell it where you are and it will tell you what you see.

    Planets follow the eliptic and each can be seen at different times of the year.  Jupiter is the brightest now seen in the southen sky

  3. You can see most planets with the naked eye.  Then point your scope in that direction.   Actually getting it focused in might depend on the type of telescope.  Larger telescopes use a reflecting mirror as a magnifier.  If the mirror is over 4 inches in diameter, you might need  one with a clock to adjust for the rotation of the earth.

  4. look at the charts in sky & telescope.
