  1. Change all your online passwords to everything and don't make it a simple word, use numbers and a few capital letters.

Having someone's IP address isn't dangerous, you can only get their location and who the internet provider is.  But if he had access to the computer in the past he might have setup remote access for himself and can login to her computer remotely.

Go to the control panel -> security center -> firewall -> tick "don't allow exceptions"  and you'll block all access into your computer via the ip address.

  2. Scan for spyware! And you might wanna try installing a good firewall. Try using COMODO. For anti-spyware you might wanna use Spybot S&D.

  3. Ok, it's not good if he has her IP address. This means, he can locate her, hack her computer, etc. etc. What I think you should do is First, scan your PC for viruses. Then, YOU MUST CHANGE THE IP ADDRESS!!!! You can download an IP changer, or you can take a tut on how to change it.

  4. This is actually quite complicated.  An IP address is simply a "telephone number" to your computer.  If someone has your IP address they would be able to access your computer.  However, most IP addresses randomly change, unless you have your IP set up as a Static Address, in which case it would remain the same.  So if it is not set up as a Static Address, which I doubt, it is not possible.......Kind of.

I am going to assume that this guy is not "geek" enough to plant malware on this computer so as to get the current IP address.

If this is the case, then you are using a router, and he knows the IP to the router.  This is a major hacking problem as most people don't know how to configure a router properly so that this does not occur.  I am not going to go into properly configuring your wireless router so as not to be hacked, but do some research, it is all over the internet.

If you are using a Linksys router, which is the best, the default IP is 192.168.1.1, just type this in your browsers URL bar and you will connect to the router.  Hopefully, he was not smart enough to change the user settings and password.  Leave the User ID blank and use "admin" as the password and this should get you into the router as this is the default for a Linksys router.  Set up new security settings and no one will be able to get into your computer.  These will work if you are using a Linksys router, but the User ID's and passwords could be changed by anyone that knows how to do it which would not allow you to access the router.  There is a little button on the back of the router which will reset the router to default settings.  If you can't access the router, then reset it. (you will need a pen or an opened paperclip to press this button).  If you have any ports forwarded, say for a PS3, then you will lose these settings and will have to redo them.  Resetting your router is kind of extreme, but is sometimes necessary.  Keep in mind that all router manufacturer's have different default IP's, so a Belkin router may not work with the information given above.  This being said, the default settings for all router manufacturer's can be found on the web, just do a search.

You probably do not have a good firewall working on this computer as a good one would have prevented this from happening.  Windows Firewall is OK, but not great.  A router is better but does not block anything outgoing.  You are much better off getting either Zone Alarm or Ghost Wall.  They are very good, however they do need to be set up.  Everything, by default is going to be blocked, you just need to allow the settings, and the firewall will "learn" so as not to block you in the future.

Let's assume that this guy has planted malware, which is doubtful unless he knows code.  You should scan with all of your anti-spyware (Spybot Search and Destroy, Adaware, Windows Defender, and Spyware Blaster).  These are the best and are all free.  I can send you links to their sites and explain all of them, let me know.  You will also need to scan with your AV (anti-virus).

Not setting up a router configuration, no firewall, not scanning with your AV and anti-malware, will allow things like this to happen.  You need to take care of this immediately or more problems are going to arise.

    I wish you luck!!!
