What information is held on your passport?

When I go through border/passport control, they swipe my passport electronically. Then it seems like they are reading a whole page of information on me for ages. So what information can they see about us? I don't have a dodgy background or anything, so they must have a lot of other info on me.

a modern electronic passport has, on the aerial at the back, all the info contained in the rest of the passport. if you wish, you can request a print out of the info held electronically, but you cant do this at an airport, ask at the post office for more info.
