What information is included in a passport file?

As I recall, the only information they ask for when you apply for a passport is date of birth, place of birth, social security number, name and address. Except for maybe the social security number, isn't all of that information already known for all of the candidates by the media? So can someone explain what the big deal is?

Passport information are basic information and nothing to worry about even when exposed to the public.
