What initiatives to stop global warming you know of?

Hi there,

Surfing the Internet, there are way too many websites talking about stopping global warming and fighting its causes and consequences. Few of them list specific campaigns to achieve this, though, so I wanted to make a list —not of organizations— of initiatives towards the reduction of pollution or stopping the global warming threat. Which do you know? Can you help me build a list?

  1. I'm so glad to see more people interested in helping with this matter:

Here's a few things I learned recently that people can incorporate into their daily lives, and if enough people take these precautions every little bit will help:

-Unplug anything you are not using ex; tv, microwave, radio...

-Walk instead of driving when taking short trips, also use mass transit

-Use a mug at work instead of foam or plastic cups that you throw out.

-don't let the water run when doing dishes, stop the water when soaping

-don't leave any lights on for your pets, they don't need light to see in the dark. that goes for A/C's running in the summer too, they don't need to be air conditioned, they are animals they can survive the heat, just make sure to leave them water.

There are other things that I cannot think of right now...maybe I'll come back and more. But that's a start...

p.s. it would be a good idea to watch "An Inconvenient truth" Al Gore. Very detailed, not boring and will make so much sense.

  2. Reduce pollution doesn't reduce global warming.

Definition of pollution: Mankind releasing toxic gasses into the air. Some people consider throwing a tissue on the crown pollution but what ever.

Things like hair spray, bug spray and all that is pollution. CO2 doesn't fit this category.

  3. Well there have been things like 'Earth Hour' and 'Live Earth' whose purposes were primarily to raise awareness about the issue.

In terms of large scale action, we need political solutions.  There have been several bills proposed to reduce our carbon emissions.

  4. I've personally committed to running my air conditioner on the maximum setting throughout the summer in order to do my part to "cool" the earth.

  5. In the USA there are several at the State level.  Governors just set them up in frustration when the EPA was ordered not to enforce.  I don't know them all but California's is the best.  EPA was threatening to prosecute the States that did this, so I think most will just wait until Bush is finally gone.

  6. Planting trees

Protesting against developments and deforrestation etc
