What injury could one suffer at a gun range?

Someone I know did not share that they were hurt at a gun range. Personally I think the person was trying to be a hot shot. Mind you they make such convictions like I don't drink. But you practice or try to practice to kill people. That's strange.

  1. i dont understand why you think that shooting a gun at a range is practicing to kill someone? i just think its fun, and can be played as a game with friends at the range to see who can get the best group, etc. it also help relieve stress from your daily life. i have never thought about killing a person while doing it, not even once.

(but yes, proper safety measures should not be taken lightly, accidents would happen less if you follow the rules, this includes wearing protection for your ears and eyes.)

  2. You should probably keep your nose out of other peoples business. Just because someone goes to the range doesn't make them a killer.

  3. The killing of people is unwarrented...only military, police, and rednecks shot for practice killing people...Just because a bullet is shot out of a gun...does not mean it HAS to kill something...Target practice is fun and very challenging...but some injuries can be burns from fired brass and people being clumsy...injuries by bullets at shooting ranges are very very very very very very rare.

  4. so going to a gun range and exercising our 2nd amendment responsibility is worse than getting drunk?

    your logic amazes me.

  5. The worst injury I suffered at a gun range was a mild case of sunburn. And that was my fault as I didn't check the expiration date on the bottle of sunscreen I used.

  6. "hurt" to what extent? you can get hurt anywhere, anytime, or place.  A person should practice gun safety at all times no matter where the location.  But serious injuries and even death are possibilities at  gun ranges.  ie, run out in the line of fire and catch one in the noggin...get it...

  7. There are several types of injuries that can happen at a gun range.

Negligent Discharge of a weapon striking you (pick a spot, fatal or not). This is either from your issue or someone else.

Splash back from the back stop. Little pieces of metal can and do splash back from the back stop... pick a spot where it hits you... not wearing eye protection... get on in the eye... not good... or hitting in the face, and s;lightly cutting (happens alot) the nose, etc...

Keeping the hands on the gun too far forward on the gun (wheel gun... too close to the cylinder... or a small auto... too close to the barrell) and you can get powder burns quite easily

Brass ejection (hot) burns, getting in to an eye... stuck behind eye protection ,etc.... hurts

Not weaing Ear protection... or too low of a decibel rating... hearing damage.

Stub your toe entering the range, cut your finger on loading the weapon,.. .etc... etc..

  8. Long term hearing damage,  burned fingers if you touch hot metal, head cut from not mounting your gun/scope correctly.  In general a range is safer than driving to get there.  I di see one very stupid accident about 30 years ago when some one was shooting handloads that were over specifications and managed to destroy his bolt action rifle. The bolt was in the roof of the shed, 10 feet overhead, the scope was in pieces and he was severely injured.  Not what I would consider safe gun practice.  This was before the Darwin awards were invented.   I never did hear what happened to the guy.  Imoved and used a range that was closer to me after that.

  9. Have you ever used a knife? WHY ARE YOU PRACTICING TO STAB PEOPLE?

  10. You should not suffer any injuries if you practice some common sense safety. Always use hearing and eye protection. However I must admit that I did get a sunburn the last time I was at the range and I guess that does count as an injury.

  11. Some people, including me, think that the range is fun or a way to relieve tension.

Yes, there are many things that can happen to a person at a range.

You could damage your hearing, have powder burns, cut yourself, heck, if you aren't careful you could shoot yourself.

What was the injury and why are you so judgemental about shooting?

  12. well, you could get in a car accident on the way there, trip on the curb and break your leg, drop your cased firearm on your foot, however most shooting lanes have extensive safety protocol, require you to wear safety glasses and hearing protection, only load the gun when it is at the firing line, always keep the barrel pointed down range, etc.

Sure, there have been instances when some guy went to a gun range, rented a gun, and committed suicide, but a person who is suicidal will find a way to do it, be it pills, hanging, or a gun, or whatever.

Also on occasion you might have some nutjob who doesn't pay attention and, with loaded gun, turns to talk to his buddy while still holding his gun. As he turns, he sweeps the entire firing range with the barrel of his gun.  These guys normally get kicked out immediately, but it could happen that he does something stupid in those few seconds before getting kicked out.

  13. Praticing to kill people is what the military and LEO do. I shoot to have fun. Can you get injured on the firing range ofcourse anything from a minor cut on your finger to having your brains splattered all over.

The range I shoot at is very safe in the 5 years I have been a member we have had exactly 0 accidents at all. We had a few close calls where people started shooting while the range was cold (No firing) he was properly scholded and lost he priviliages to shoot for a year. The other was me falling down the berm with a chain saw while cutting trees on the berm. I got attacked by wasps and lost my footing slide down the wet grass with a chain saw blazing away. That was so much fun let me tell you......

  14. I wish I could say it was strange that someone would make an ignorant statement like we practice to hurt people but unfortunately Hollywood has a greater impact than reasonable conversation

Many injuries can be suffered at a range

Scope Eye, when th rifle kick  little harder than you anticipate and the scope cuts you above the eye

It can range from humorous to critical

If you hold a semi auto pistol improperly the slide can catch you thumb, the damage can range from humorous to debilitating

    Ricochets are not unheard of

The damage can range from exasperating to infuriating

The gun can blow up, or kaboom (this name was chosen because it sounds kinda German like the gun it is most common in)

This can range from surprising to a surprising lack of fingers

The guy in the next lane can shoot you

The damage can range from infuriating to fatal

    You could shoot yourself

The damage can range from embarrassing to funereal

I have been hit by a ricochet and way back when I was also a dumbass I shot myself in the toe

Accidents do happen at ranges but it is usually because of someones negligence

But there was this one guy that was practicing his twirl and shoot techniques with single action birds head revolvers

    He died

There was another guy way back along time ago that was practicing his quick draw with a loaded gun and a tied back trigger

He walks with a slight limp from a bullet wound in his toe
