Question:

What insect / amphibian would make this sound?

On our honeymoon last week in Jamaica, my husband kept noticing this sound made by some local wildlife. In the evenings, we would clearly hear a sound that sounded something like a cicada, cricket or frog. It was made by many, many creatures. (i.e. We would hear them wherever we walked on the resort - not just in one place.) The sound itself was three-toned and repetitive; like if you hit three decending notes on a keyboard over and over again.

So, any ideas as to what would make this sound? I kept insisting it was a certain animal, but my husband kept thinking I was kidding - so I want to know what you guys think.

Thanks!

  1. It's mainly a toad.

  2. Sorry, I've never  been to Jamaica, but I know that some folks can plainly hear frogs, crickets and cicadas and others can't. Must be the frequency range and not the intensity, for these folks have otherwise good hearing! I'm guessing a frog of some sort...

  3. Congrats, crikey, you're finally married.

    It's a toad (...pretty sure).

I've been to Montego Bay, where'd you go?

    HTH.
